Posted by Adrian Rigby onHaving a printer in your own home is ideal. Whether you work from home part-time or need something to print your children’s homework on, having a printer can help with daily life and be extremely useful. However, with so many printers to choose from, it can be a struggle to know which one is best for your needs. Here we discuss the best printers for home use.
Home use Laser PrintersLet’s begin with a laser printer perfect for at-home use.
Xerox B205 - OverviewThe Xerox B205 Printer not only prints but scans and copies as well which is a major benefit for many households. Its compact size makes it ideal for home use and whilst it only prints in black and white, it is a great option for many people. With an RRP of around £140 including VAT, it is also reasonable value for money. It can connect via USB, network or wireless and is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux.
With a 250 sheet input tray, this printer is a fast monochrome laser that has good print quality and low running costs. Whilst some functions like colour printing and automatic double-sided printing are missing, this simple machine is easy to use and does exactly as it says on the box.
Xerox B210 – Overview
The Xerox B210 mono laser printer is a basic printer that only prints in Black and white. This is ideal for many people’s printing needs. However, if you are wanting to print marketing material, colourful pictures for the family or presentations for work, this may not be the best choice. However, if you mainly print text documents, this printer is great as it is faster than your standard inkjet printer.
With a 250 sheet input tray, automatic double-sided printing, good quality printing and low cost per page, this small, robust and capable printer is a great addition to your home office. It is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux and has USB, network, Wireless and WifiDirect connectivity capabilities. Plus at an RRP of £115 including VAT, this offers great value for money and should be a consideration for those who are driving mainly on price.
Home use InkJet Printers
Epson XP 2105- OverviewThis basic inkjet printer has a lot to offer. Not only is the average RRP of this printer only £45 including VAT, but it is also suitable for printing photos, can print wireless and can even print from your email or smartphone by downloading brand-specific apps. Whilst it only has a sheet capacity of 50, it allows borderless printing and prints at a high quality.
The low initial cost of the printer combined with the relatively low printing cost makes this a great choice for a home printer. The fact that it prints photos and high-quality colour makes it a perfect family choice for printing homework, photos and more. This basic, down to earth printer with wifi capability is ideal for homes that do not do too much printing. It is not expensive to run ink wise and means parents can print their children’s homework without it being a financial strain.
This inkjet printer uses individual ink cartridges so you only have to change the colour it has run out of. This is ideal as it saves you from having to swap the whole thing like most inkjet printers. This makes it cheaper to run.
All in One Colour InkJet Printers
Brother MFC- J5330DW Overview
This printer can print up to A3 and can scan, copy and fax up to A4, making it a perfect addition to homes that print a reasonable amount and will also benefit from it being an all in one printer. Popular with teachers, group leaders, local event organisers and those who print more than the average home, this printer has a lot to offer. It provides the capability of a much larger and more expensive printer at a reasonable price and has relatively low running costs.
With both USB and wireless capability, a 250 sheet input tray, and automatic double-sided printing, this makes a great home use printer. It is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux and can print as fast as 6 seconds a page. This 4 in one printer is at the top end of home printers and allows you to print regularly at a very competitive price. You can also accurately check the ink levels via a dedicated app to ensure you don’t run out.
The compatible series of ink cartridges are in the LC3219XL range. A set of all 4 colours in hi-capacity costs £42.98 including VAT. This will provide a 3,000-page yield in black ink or a 1,500-page yield in Cyan, Magenta and Yellow at 5% coverage.
This inkjet printer uses individual ink cartridges, meaning you only have to change the colour it has run out of as opposed to the whole cartridge. This makes it a lot cheaper to run.
An in Between all in one InkJet Printer
Epson Workforce WF 2830DWF- Overview
This Epson printer gives you an all in one machine at a very competitive price. Whilst it is not designed for heavy use which we define as more than 30 pages a day (see the previous printer for greater volumes) it is still a very complete print solution that will suit a lot of homes.
It prints, scans, copies and faxes, with a 100 sheet input tray and offers automatic double-sided printing. It is also windows & mac compatible and has USB, wireless and Wifi Direct connectivity.
This printer takes the 603 series ink cartridges which is a set of all 4 colour cartridges in hi-capacity for £29.94. It provides a yield of 500 pages with black ink and 350 pages with cyan, magenta and yellow ink at a 5% coverage. Similar to the printers above, you only need to replace the colour that has run out rather than the whole cartridge which is great for keeping costs down.
Like a lot of things, we do not use them until we have them and most home users do not need a machine that will handle a vast amount of printing daily. It is important you first decide what your printer needs are. How much are you realistically going to print? Do you need to print in colour? Do you need the ability to scan, copy or fax? Once you have asked yourselves these questions, you should be able to find a great printer from the ones we have highlighted in this article. The above machines should fit most requirements. However, if they don’t then please contact us. Pick up the phone and call us at AB Cartridges on 01522 683460. We offer free, unbiased advice to help you get the best printer for your home.
